Designs to keep for a lifetime Suzanne Zaruba Cirillo resides in Tempe, Arizona, with her husband, son and two Cavalier King Charles spaniels, Lady and Maggie. She has been making beautiful quilts for her family and friends since the early 1970s. Her interest in quilting began in childhood, when her maternal aunt gave her and her sister a lavender Nine Patch patchwork quilt. It was the first quilt she remembers seeing and she treasured it for years. Suzanne learned to sew as a child in National City, California, where her family lived while her father served in the U.S. Navy. Her mother would take her and her sister to recreational programs where sewing classes, among other things, were taught. After graduating from State College of San Diego, she married Richard and had three children: Christine, Michael and Elizabeth. She always enjoyed making clothes for the whole family. Her first quilts were for her children and the applique quilt she made for her youngest for her third birthday she still loves and uses daily after more than three decades.
